Privacy and cookies
Cultured Eye has no accounts. What you do in the app is stored in your own browser. Visitor statistics with Google Analytics are used only if you have accepted them. This page explains what is stored, which other websites are contacted and what applies to the statistics and the advertising.
Your progress in the exercises, your lists, your notes in the architecture diary and the language you have chosen are stored in your browser’s local storage (localStorage). None of this is sent to us or to anyone else.
When you change the language yourself, the choice is also stored in a cookie called sprak, so that an address without a language leads to the right one next time. The cookie is necessary for the site to work as you have chosen and therefore does not require consent. It contains only the language code and lasts one year.
The app’s own files are stored by a service worker, so that pages you have already visited work offline. You remove all of this by clearing the site data in your browser settings; your progress can also be reset under Practise.
Images are fetched as files by your browser from Wikimedia Commons and from the image servers of the museums’ open collections (the details about them are prepared in advance, so no searches are made there): the Art Institute of Chicago, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Cleveland Museum of Art and Statens Museum for Kunst. As with any visit to a website, their servers see your IP address and which image or record is fetched; their own privacy terms apply.
The app sends no cookies, no login details and nothing about what you do to these websites. Links to museums, Wikidata and other sources open their own pages, where their terms apply.
If you accept in the box shown on your first visit, we use Google Analytics to count visits and page views. Google’s script is fetched only after you have accepted, and the statistics cookies are set only then. The statistics are not used for advertising or for building profiles, and Google signals are switched off.
You can change or withdraw your choice at any time under Cookie settings at the bottom of every page. Which cookies are used, what data is sent, the legal basis and the retention periods are described on the Cookies and visitor statistics page.
What is stored in your browser stays there and is removed when you clear it. The visitor statistics are based on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time; the statistics cookies are then removed. More about your rights regarding the statistics is on the Cookies and visitor statistics page. For data Google processes in connection with the ads, you can contact Google and change your consent as described above.
You always have the right to lodge a complaint with your data protection authority (in Sweden, IMY, imy.se).
