The present day

In recent decades the Nordic countries have gained buildings that have become famous all over the world, from the Oslo Opera House to Helsinki’s central library.

Snøhetta’s opera house in Oslo, opened in 2008, has a sloping roof of white stone that anyone can walk on. Helsinki’s central library Oodi, designed by ALA and opened in 2018, is a living room for the whole city. Moesgaard Museum outside Aarhus has a grass-covered roof that rises out of the landscape, and Danish practices such as BIG and Henning Larsen build all over the world.
