Roman Hispania

Hispania was one of Rome’s richest provinces. Aqueducts, bridges and theatres survive throughout the peninsula.

The aqueduct of Segovia, built of granite blocks without mortar, is still the city’s landmark. In Mérida, the provincial capital Emerita Augusta, stand a theatre and a long bridge, and the bridge at Alcántara still spans the river Tagus.
