The post-war era and Concretism
The Men of 1947, Concretism and the opening of Moderna Museet.
In 1947 a group of young artists exhibited concrete, geometric art: Olle Bonniér, Lennart Rodhe, Karl-Axel Pehrson and Pierre Olofsson – “the Men of 1947”. Olle Baertling painted his pointed, open forms.
Others went in the opposite direction. Evert Lundquist painted simple motifs in thick, heavy paint, while the Informalists pursued spontaneous gesture and matter.
In 1958 Moderna Museet opened on Skeppsholmen. Under Pontus Hultén it became one of the most innovative museums in the world, with exhibitions of Duchamp, Warhol and the gigantic female sculpture She.
