Winter and snow

Snow transforms the world into a white surface on which colours, light and tracks stand out clearly. We follow winter in art from medieval books of hours and Bruegel’s hunters, via Dutch skaters, Romantic frozen ruins and the Impressionists’ blue shadows, to Chinese snowscapes, Fjæstad’s hoarfrost and the contemporary art of ice.
