Artemide
Founded in Milan by Ernesto Gismondi and Sergio Mazza. Known for Richard Sapper’s Tizio, Michele De Lucchi and Giancarlo Fassina’s Tolomeo and Vico Magistretti’s Eclisse.
Artemide was founded in Milan, where a new generation of designers and manufacturers worked together after the war. The company let architects and designers develop lamps that were both technical innovations and sculptural objects.
Richard Sapper's Tizio of 1972 balances its arms with counterweights and carries the current through the arms to a halogen bulb. The Tolomeo of 1987 became a modern classic among task lamps, and Artemide has since worked with contemporary designers and lighting technology.
