Aston Martin
British maker of sports cars, known for the DB series and for the cars in the Bond films.
Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford started the company in London; the name came from the Aston Hill hill climb and Martin's surname. Between the wars small series of sports cars were built, and the firm changed hands several times.
The industrialist David Brown bought Aston Martin in 1947, and the models were given his initials: DB2, DB4 and DB5. The DB5 of 1963 became world-famous through the Bond film Goldfinger. Aston Martin has since built sports cars in small series.
