Bauersche Gießerei

Type foundry in Frankfurt under Georg Hartmann; issued Paul Renner’s Futura (1927) and Bauer Bodoni.

Under Georg Hartmann the Bauersche Gießerei in Frankfurt became one of Germany's most forward-looking type foundries. Hartmann commissioned artists and typographers for new typefaces and had modern versions made of classic models.

Paul Renner's Futura of 1927 became the most widespread geometric sans serif and travelled with modernism across the world. Bauer Bodoni, Weiss and Elizabeth are other well-known typefaces from the foundry.
