BSA
British maker from Birmingham, once the world’s largest motorcycle manufacturer, known for the Gold Star and the Rocket 3.
Birmingham Small Arms was founded by gunsmiths and moved on to bicycles and then motorcycles. In the 1950s BSA was the world’s largest motorcycle maker and also owned Triumph.
The Gold Star became the café racers’ favourite, and the Rocket 3 of 1968 was an answer to the new Japanese machines. The group collapsed in the early 1970s, and the name has since been taken up by others.
