Bulgari
Roman jeweller founded by the Greek silversmith Sotirios Voulgaris; known for large cabochon coloured stones and ancient coins in jewels.
Sotirios Voulgaris came from Epirus and opened a shop in Rome at the end of the 19th century. In the 20th century his sons developed a style of their own, inspired by Roman antiquity and the Renaissance.
From the 1940s came the Serpenti snake, often as a watch coiling around the wrist, and after the war large, colourful stones set in yellow gold. In the 1960s Elizabeth Taylor was one of the best-known clients. Bulgari has been part of LVMH since 2011.
