Carl Hansen & Søn
A joinery workshop in Odense that grew into an industry. Has made Hans J. Wegner’s Wishbone Chair since 1950, along with many of his other chairs.
Carl Hansen opened a cabinetmaker's workshop in Odense and moved early to machine production, which was unusual in Denmark. His son Holger Hansen ran the company when the collaboration with Hans J. Wegner began in 1949.
The Wishbone Chair, CH24 in the catalogue, has been made without interruption since 1950. The firm later took up chairs by Kaare Klint, Børge Mogensen and Poul Kjærholm and in 2011 bought the Rud. Rasmussen workshops.
A brand with the firm’s name, and Wegner’s name on later examples.
