Celine

Paris fashion house that began with children's shoes and became known for a restrained, intellectual womenswear.

Céline Vipiana and her husband Richard opened a shop for made-to-measure children's shoes in Paris. In the 1960s the firm moved into womenswear, bags and accessories, with a classic, bourgeois style.

The brand has been part of LVMH since 1996. Under Phoebe Philo from 2008 Céline became known for a pared-back elegance of great influence, and in 2018 the accent was dropped from the name.

Older labels and hardware spell Céline with an accent; since 2018 it has been Celine without.

Embossed leather stamps with Céline Paris or Made in Italy inside the bags.
