de Gournay

British company that has wallpapers hand-painted in the 18th-century Chinese style to order.

Claud Cecil Gurney founded the firm in London to recreate the hand-painted Chinese wallpapers bought by the European aristocracy in the 18th century. The papers are painted by hand by artists in China.

Each wallpaper is painted to order to the room's measurements, on paper or silk. The designs include Chinese gardens and birds, but also French panoramas and new motifs.

Hand-painted brushstrokes; newer paper and paints than the originals.
