British toaster maker founded by Max Gort-Barten; the hand-assembled stainless-steel toaster is the classic.

Max Gort-Barten was an inventor who made kitchen appliances in London. The toaster with its hand-assembled steel body and timer became a favourite in British restaurants and cafés.

The toasters could be repaired and fitted with new parts, so they stayed in use for decades. In the 1980s they became popular in homes too, as a symbol of robust British manufacturing.
