Dunhill

London firm that began with accessories for motorists and became known for pipes, lighters and menswear.

Alfred Dunhill took over his father's saddlery and began selling clothing and accessories for motorists under the name Dunhill's Motorities. He then opened a tobacco shop and developed pipes and lighters.

Between the wars Dunhill lighters and smoking accessories became status symbols. The firm later became a menswear house with tailored suits and leather goods.
