Gemla
Furniture factory in Diö in Småland, one of Sweden’s oldest. Known for bentwood furniture in Thonet’s manner – Vienna chairs – and later for chairs by Swedish architects.
Gemla was founded in Diö in Småland and became one of Sweden's first furniture factories. It made bentwood furniture on the Austrian model and was one of the great suppliers of chairs to cafés and public rooms.
In the 20th century Gemla took up chairs by Swedish architects and designers, and the factory is still in Diö, specialising in bentwood.
A brand or label with the factory’s name under the seat.
