Heal’s
London shop that began with bedding and feathers and under Ambrose Heal became a champion of simple, well-made furniture.
John Harris Heal started a feather-dressing and mattress business in London, and the firm moved to Tottenham Court Road, where it still is. The shop was extended several times.
Ambrose Heal designed simple oak furniture in the Arts and Crafts spirit and made Heal's a champion of good everyday design. After the Second World War the firm sold printed fabrics by Lucienne Day, such as Calyx of 1951.
