Issey Miyake

Issey Miyake's Japanese fashion house, known for pleated garments and for developing new textile techniques.

Issey Miyake studied graphic design in Tokyo and worked in Paris for Guy Laroche and Hubert de Givenchy before founding the Miyake Design Studio in Tokyo in 1970. He started from a single piece of cloth and the movement of the body.

Pleats Please of 1993 is pleated after the garment is sewn, so the pleats stay. The Bao Bao bag is built of small moving triangles, and the A-POC technique cuts whole garments from a roll of fabric.

Pleating that keeps its shape even after washing.

Labels with Issey Miyake and, for Pleats Please and Bao Bao, their own line names.
