Jaguar

Founded by William Lyons and William Walmsley as the Swallow Sidecar Company; the name Jaguar became the company’s in 1945. The E-type (1961) is the classic.

William Lyons and William Walmsley made motorcycle sidecars in Blackpool and then bodies and cars under the name SS. After the Second World War the name SS was dropped, and the company became Jaguar.

The XK120 of 1948 was one of the fastest production cars of its day, and Jaguar won Le Mans several times in the 1950s. Malcolm Sayer shaped the racing cars with aerodynamic precision, and the E-type of 1961 became his best-known work. The marque is now owned by India's Tata.
