Kartell

Founded by Giulio Castelli near Milan to make household objects in plastic; it became one of the major makers of plastic furniture, with designers such as Joe Colombo, Anna Castelli Ferrieri and Philippe Starck.

Giulio Castelli was a chemical engineer and founded Kartell to make household goods and car accessories in plastic. His wife, the architect Anna Castelli Ferrieri, designed among other things the Componibili storage units.

Joe Colombo's stacking chair of the 1960s was one of the first chairs made entirely of plastic. Philippe Starck's Louis Ghost of 2002 in transparent polycarbonate became one of the best-selling modern chairs.

The marking is moulded into the plastic under the seat, often with the model’s name and the designer.
