Kosta
Sweden’s oldest glassworks still in operation, founded by the provincial governors Koskull and Staël von Holstein, after whom it was named. Made chandeliers and table glass and from the 20th century art glass by Vicke Lindstrand among others. Part of Kosta Boda.
The Kosta glassworks was founded in Småland in 1742 and named after its founders Koskull and Staël. It made window glass, chandeliers and table glass, and the glassworks village grew up around the furnace.
In the 20th century Kosta employed artists, and Vicke Lindstrand, Elis Bergh and Mona Morales-Schildt gave the works a profile of its own. Kosta was joined with Boda and Åfors as Kosta Boda and is now part of New Wave Group.
Engraved signature Kosta with the artist’s name or initials and model number; older glass is often unmarked.
