Le Creuset

Foundry in Fresnoy-le-Grand making enamelled cast-iron pots; the orange colour Volcanique was the first.

Armand Desaegher, a casting specialist, and Octave Aubecq, an enamelling specialist, founded Le Creuset in Fresnoy-le-Grand in north-eastern France. The first casserole was coloured orange Volcanique, meant to imitate molten iron.

Raymond Loewy designed a range for Le Creuset in the 1950s, and Enzo Mari made the Mama casserole. The pots are still made in Fresnoy-le-Grand.

Size number cast under the base and in the lid; the three-ring logo on lid knobs.
