J. & L. Lobmeyr

Viennese glass firm that made chandeliers – by its own account including some of the first electric ones, with Edison, in the 1880s – and glass by Josef Hoffmann and Adolf Loos.

Josef Lobmeyr opened a glass shop in Vienna, and his sons Josef and Ludwig made it a maker that had glassworks and engravers work to its own designs. Ludwig Lobmeyr's drinking set no. 238 of 1856 in thin muslin glass is still made.

Around 1900 Lobmeyr worked with designers of the Wiener Werkstätte, and Adolf Loos designed a drinking set for the firm in 1931. Lobmeyr made the chandeliers for the Metropolitan Opera in New York and is still run by the family.
