Maison Margiela
Martin Margiela's fashion house in Paris, known for deconstructed garments, anonymity and the Tabi shoe.
Martin Margiela trained in Antwerp and worked for Jean Paul Gaultier before starting his own house with Jenny Meirens in 1988. He never showed his face and let the house speak through the clothes.
The garments were often remade, with visible seams and white labels with numbers. The Tabi shoe with a split toe, inspired by Japanese socks, came in the first collection. Margiela left the house in 2009, and it is now led by others.
The white label with the numbers 0–23, attached with four visible stitches.
Visible seams and garments that look unfinished.
