Maison Poiret

Paul Poiret's fashion house in Paris, which freed women from the corset and brought in oriental colours and forms.

Paul Poiret worked for Jacques Doucet and Worth before opening his own house in 1903. He launched straight dresses without a corset, harem trousers and the lampshade tunic, and he drew inspiration from the Ballets Russes.

Poiret was one of the first couturiers with a perfume of his own, and he started the interior-design workshop Atelier Martine. After the First World War his style went out of fashion, and the house closed in 1929.

Labels with Paul Poiret and a stylised rose.
