Philips

Founded in Eindhoven to make light bulbs; became one of the world’s largest makers of lamps and electronics.

Frederik Philips and his son Gerard founded a light-bulb factory in Eindhoven, and Anton Philips built up the sales. The company grew into one of Europe's largest electronics groups, with radio, television and household appliances.

Philips launched the Philishave shaver in 1939 and the Compact Cassette in 1963, and helped develop the CD. In 2016 the lighting business became a separate company, now Signify.

The name and type designations printed on bulbs and caps; older bulbs have a tip on the glass.
