Pilot

Japanese pen maker founded in Tokyo by Ryosuke Namiki; known for maki-e lacquer pens and the Capless (1963).

Ryosuke Namiki was a teacher at a merchant marine school and developed a gold nib for fountain pens. Together with Masao Wada he founded the company in Tokyo, first called Namiki Manufacturing.

The pens with maki-e, lacquer with gold and silver, were made with lacquer artists and sold through Dunhill in Europe. The Capless of 1963, with a retractable nib, and the erasable FriXion of 2006 show the range.
