Polaroid
American company that invented instant photography and made cameras such as the SX-70.
Edwin Land founded Polaroid in Massachusetts to make polarising filters for glasses and cars. His daughter asked why she could not see the picture straight away, and he developed an instant camera, the Model 95 of 1948.
The SX-70 of 1972 was a folding single-lens reflex camera that ejected a colour print that developed in the light. Polaroid went bankrupt in 2001 and 2008, and the brand lives on in new hands.
