Ransomes

Agricultural implement maker in Ipswich that from 1832 made Budding’s mower under licence.

Robert Ransome was a Quaker who started a foundry in Ipswich and patented ploughshares that sharpened themselves. The firm became one of Britain's major makers of agricultural implements.

From 1832 Ransomes made Edwin Budding's lawnmowers, and the firm later made motor mowers. The Ransomes name lives on in mowers for parks and golf courses.

The Ransomes name cast into the iron parts.
