Ray-Ban
Bausch & Lomb’s sunglasses brand from 1937; Aviator, Wayfarer and Clubmaster. Owned by Luxottica since 1999.
Bausch & Lomb made glasses for US Army Air Corps pilots, and in 1937 the sunglasses were launched as Ray-Ban, banning the sun's rays. The Aviator was shaped after the pilots' goggles.
The Wayfarer of 1952, in injection-moulded plastic, was worn by musicians and film stars and gained a new life in the 1980s. Ray-Ban has been part of Luxottica, now EssilorLuxottica, since 1999.
