Rimowa

Cologne luggage maker that in 1937 made an aluminium suitcase with grooves, inspired by aircraft.

Paul Morszeck founded a luggage firm in Cologne, and in 1937 his son Richard Morszeck developed a suitcase in light aluminium. The characteristic grooves came in 1950. The name was formed from Richard Morszeck Warenzeichen.

The grooved aluminium cases became a symbol of air travel, and polycarbonate cases came in 2000. Rimowa has been part of LVMH since 2016.
