Saint-Louis dates its beginnings to the glassworks at Münzthal in Lorraine, founded in 1586. In 1767 it received a royal privilege from Louis XV and the name Verrerie Royale de Saint-Louis.
The works began making lead crystal in the 1780s and in the 19th century became known for millefiori paperweights. Saint-Louis has been part of Hermès since 1989.
