Scania (Vabis)
Vabis was founded in Södertälje in 1891 and merged with Scania of Malmö in 1911; early cars, then lorries and buses.
Vabis in Södertälje and Scania in Malmö merged to form Scania-Vabis and made cars, lorries and buses. Car production was dropped in the 1920s to concentrate on heavy vehicles.
Scania became one of the world's leading makers of lorries and buses, and the griffin's head in the badge comes from the arms of Skåne. Scania is now part of Traton in the Volkswagen group.
