Sèvres
The French royal porcelain factory, founded at Vincennes and moved to Sèvres in 1756. Known for soft-paste porcelain in strong ground colours with gilding.
The porcelain factory began in Vincennes and moved to Sèvres with the support of Madame de Pompadour, who was one of its great customers. Louis XV bought it, and it became royal.
The factory made soft-paste porcelain with strong ground colours, such as bleu céleste and rose Pompadour, with gilding. From the 1770s hard-paste porcelain was also made. The manufactory is still state-owned and works with contemporary artists.
Two interlaced Ls with a letter for the year (A = 1753); other marks during the Revolution and the Empire.
