Daniel Swarovski came from Bohemia and moved to Wattens in Tyrol, where water power drove his cutting machine for crystal glass. The stones were supplied to fashion houses, jewellers and costume-jewellery makers.

In the 1970s Swarovski began making crystal figurines, and the brand became known to the general public. The family still runs the company.

Markings on tags and clasps; loose stones often carry a micro-engraved mark.
