Tannoy

English loudspeaker maker whose name became a word for public-address systems; coaxial drivers with the tweeter in the centre of the woofer.

Guy R. Fountain founded Tannoy in London. The name came from the tantalum alloy in the rectifiers that the company made first.

The Dual Concentric of 1947 placed the tweeter horn in the middle of the bass driver, so that the sound came from one point. Tannoy loudspeakers were long used in public-address systems, and the name became a word for a loudspeaker in English.

The coaxial driver and model names such as Westminster and Autograph.
