Van Cleef & Arpels
Paris jeweller known for the invisible setting, Serti Mystérieux, from 1933 and for the Alhambra jewels from 1968.
Alfred Van Cleef and Estelle Arpels married, and Alfred and Estelle's brothers Charles and Julien Arpels opened a shop on the Place Vendôme. Renée Puissant, Alfred's daughter, led the design in the 1920s and 30s.
The invisible setting of 1933 hides the metal completely. The Zip necklace, which can be closed into a bracelet, and the four-leaf-clover Alhambra became classics. Van Cleef & Arpels is part of Richemont.
The signature VCA or Van Cleef & Arpels and a serial number.
