Voigtländer
One of the oldest optical firms in the world, founded in Vienna and later based in Braunschweig.
Johann Christoph Voigtländer founded the firm in Vienna in 1756 and made instruments and spectacles. In 1841 his grandson built a brass camera with the fast lens that Joseph Petzval had calculated.
The firm moved to Braunschweig and made cameras and lenses throughout the 20th century. The name is now used for lenses and cameras made in Japan.
