Wiener Werkstätte

The Vienna workshops of applied art, founded by Josef Hoffmann, Koloman Moser and Fritz Waerndorfer. Silver, jewellery, furniture and textiles in austere, geometric forms.

Josef Hoffmann, Koloman Moser and Fritz Waerndorfer founded the Wiener Werkstätte on the model of the Arts and Crafts movement in England. The workshops made silver, furniture, jewellery, textiles and graphics.

The Palais Stoclet in Brussels and the Purkersdorf Sanatorium became total works of art, and the workshops had departments for fashion and textiles. Finances were always weak, and the workshops closed in 1932.

The WW monogram, a rose mark and the monograms of designer and craftsman.
