Alvar Aalto
Architect and designer
Finnish architect who gave modernism soft forms in wood and glass.
Alvar Aalto designed the sanatorium at Paimio and the library at Viipuri and developed bent plywood for furniture, often together with his wife Aino Aalto.
The furniture was made by the company Artek, which the couple helped to found in 1935. His glass for Karhula-Iittala became as well known as the buildings.
