Emile Berliner

Inventor

German-American inventor of the gramophone and the flat disc record.

Emile Berliner emigrated from Hanover to the United States and worked on the telephone microphone before patenting the gramophone in 1887.

His flat discs could be pressed in large editions, and the companies he founded were the beginning of the record industry.
