William De Morgan

Potter

English Arts and Crafts potter who rediscovered lustre glazes and Persian colours.

William De Morgan, a friend of William Morris, made tiles and dishes in London from the 1870s.

His glazes in ruby and silvery lustre and in Persian blue and green were based on studies of Islamic and Italian pottery. Later he became a successful novelist.
