Italian founder of the Gucci leather-goods house in Florence.

Guccio Gucci worked at the Savoy Hotel in London and saw the luggage of wealthy travellers. He opened a leather-goods shop in Florence in 1921.

Under his direction the firm made bags, luggage and riding equipment, among them the bamboo bag of 1947.
