Regency

Greek, Egyptian and Chinese motifs in the time of the Prince Regent.

The Regency was named after the Prince Regent, later George IV. Furniture was light but more archaeologically antique than before, with sabre legs, lion's paws and brass inlay. Thomas Hope published his own designs in 1807.

The Prince Regent's pavilion in Brighton, rebuilt by John Nash in 1815–1823, shows the period's delight in the exotic, with Indian domes outside and Chinese interiors.
