From punk to Dyson
Punk graphics, the Design Museum, bagless vacuum cleaners and British designers all over the world.
Punk in the 1970s gave graphics a new, raw expression, and Neville Brody's layouts for the magazine The Face in the 1980s influenced typography worldwide. Ron Arad made chairs from car parts and steel. The Design Museum in London opened in 1989.
James Dyson's bagless vacuum cleaner DC01 of 1993 became an industrial success. Jasper Morrison and Jony Ive, who shaped Apple's products, and Thomas Heatherwick, who made the Olympic cauldron in London in 2012, show the breadth of British design.
