The Qing: export porcelain and chinoiserie

China made porcelain, wallpaper and silk to European orders, and Europe responded with chinoiserie.

Under the Qing dynasty porcelain making reached new heights with famille rose and famille verte. From 1757 trade with Europe was handled through Canton, where European companies ordered porcelain with their own arms and patterns. The Swedish East India Company brought home millions of pieces.

Chinese wallpapers, lacquer and silk inspired chinoiserie in Europe, and Europe's porcelain factories tried to imitate Chinese porcelain.
