Royal porcelain and court furniture
Copenhagen got its porcelain factory in 1775, and Blue Fluted and Flora Danica became Denmark's first great design classics.
The royal porcelain manufactory in Copenhagen, today Royal Copenhagen, was founded in 1775. Its first pattern, Blue Fluted, is blue on white after Chinese and German models and is still made. The Flora Danica service, begun in 1790, depicts plants from a Danish botanical work, a new species on each piece.
Danish cabinetmakers followed the Rococo and neoclassicism, often via England and Germany. The Royal Furniture Emporium, founded in 1777, sold furniture from Copenhagen's cabinetmakers with quality control.
