The Klint school and PH

Kaare Klint founded the Danish furniture school on measurement and tradition, and Poul Henningsen shaped light.

Kaare Klint began teaching at the Royal Academy's furniture school in 1924. He measured the human body, the objects to be stored and older furniture – English and Chinese furniture and campaign furniture – to find the right dimensions and forms. His students, such as Børge Mogensen, became the core of Danish modernism. The cabinetmakers' annual exhibitions in Copenhagen, from 1927, brought designers and craftsmen together.

Poul Henningsen constructed his lamps with several shades so that light was directed downwards and glare disappeared. Louis Poulsen made them from 1926. In 1932 Ole Kirk Christiansen began making wooden toys in Billund, and in 1934 the company got the name LEGO.
