Starck and his successors

Philippe Starck became the world's best-known designer, and the Bouroullec brothers renewed furniture.

In 1983 Philippe Starck decorated Mitterrand's private rooms in the Élysée Palace and in 1984 the Café Costes, and went on to do everything from lemon squeezers to hotels. Andrée Putman became known for interiors in black and white.

Since the late 1990s Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec have worked for Vitra, Kartell and others with light, often modular furniture and systems. Matali Crasset works with objects and environments that question habits.
