Pop and radical design
Plastic furniture, beanbags and architects who questioned design itself.
Joe Colombo, Vico Magistretti and others made furniture and lamps in plastic for Kartell, Artemide and Zanotta. The Sacco beanbag of 1968 had no fixed shape, and Sottsass's Valentine typewriter of 1969 was red and portable.
Archizoom, Superstudio and Gaetano Pesce criticised consumption. The exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1972 showed both elegant Italian design and its critique.
